How often is the red flag raised on Sharm el-Sheikh beaches and what causes sea closures?

In summer the flag status can flip several times in a single day: e.g. green in the morning, then red, then yellow, then red again by early afternoon — expect frequent changes.

In autumn at Nabq Bay the sea is generally calm, but waves and undercurrent near the pier cause a red flag until midday.

In the Naama Bay area a red flag is very rare — only one such day occurred the whole season.

In November the red flag was raised only once, for a couple of hours in the morning, with calm swimming the rest of the time.

In the Club Street area there can be waves and choppy conditions. A red flag was raised due to currents, with pontoons only opening around 11:00 AM. Meanwhile, the Remal area had completely calm water the same day.

In July there are virtually no mosquitoes or midges. Red flag closures do happen but are infrequent. The main challenge is intense heat and strong sun.

In June at Nabq Bay, the red flag was raised only twice over 10 days, and only until midday each time. The rest of the stay the sea was open without restrictions.
