Do you have to renounce your original citizenship when getting Georgian citizenship?

Georgia officially permits dual citizenship, so you are not required to renounce your original citizenship when naturalizing. However, Russia does not recognize dual citizenship — Russian nationals are legally obligated to notify the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs within 60 days of acquiring foreign citizenship. Many people skip this notification in practice, but it is technically a legal violation.

A child can travel to Georgia with a non-parent companion if accompanied by a notarized parental consent letter from one parent. Georgian border authorities generally accept Russian-language documents without requiring an English translation, though a translation may be needed at the departure country's border depending on the route.

Russian citizens can take a driving license exam for categories AM or A in Georgia. A valid residence permit or proof of legal stay is typically required. Exams are conducted at the LEPL Civil Registry Agency offices.
