How deep and clear is the water at Belek beach Turkey?

Based on 1 discussion with 3 participants · Last activity: 3 days ago

TL;DR

Belek beach is shallow for a long stretch. Depth near piers is around 1.5–2.5 meters. Water clarity varies — it can be murky near shore even at piers during calm conditions, while rough seas can still leave the water clear further out.

One visitor noted that coral/water shoes grip well on the seabed (no slipping) when the sea isn't stormy. Waves at the beach typically start picking up around noon, and during those times people entered/exited the water via a small bridge/pier rather than directly from the shore.

The sea is generally clean, but microplastic particles are sometimes noticeable in the afternoon. This was observed even during a boat trip far from shore, near Suluada island — microplastic can be found in open water too.

Recent reports say the sea is currently very clean: in the morning, especially before 9:00, visibility is good even at around 3 meters depth, and the bottom is easy to see. There can be a small amount of seaweed at the shoreline, and small afternoon waves may stir up sand near the edge, but overall this is not considered a major issue.

At the Sunrise/Starlight beach area, the sea entry is pebbly: it is shallow right at the edge, but the depth increases sharply within about 3–5 meters. For a person 162 cm tall, the water is already around shoulder or over-head depth at roughly 5 meters out. In waves, getting back out is difficult; the entry from the Starlight side is considered more comfortable than from the Sunrise side.

At Sunshine beach the sea entry is rocky and steep — there is a drop-off after just 2–3 metres and the water becomes very deep quickly. No slabs, but waves intensify near the shore due to rocks. A little further out the sea is calmer. The water is crystal clear.

At the near beach the water is clear, but a small bay at the shoreline collects minor surface debris. The far beach has waves, almost no litter, and the water appears even clearer. No unpleasant smell was noticed.

At Barut beach the water is clean despite a nearby river — a dam diverts the river in the opposite direction, so it does not mix with the sea.

The sea entry is gradual: the shore has large pebbles, which get smaller in the water, and the depth increases slowly — it does not get deep right away.

The main open beach has a very long shallow entry — you have to walk quite far before the water gets deeper. Sun loungers are placed well back from the waterline.

At the Greenmax pier during flat calm conditions, the depth is around 1.5 meters, but the water was murky from the shoreline all the way to the end of the pier.

A couple of kilometers along the beach from Belek, a pier offers around 1.5 meters depth at the sides and 2–2.5 meters at the end. Even during rough seas the water was clear enough to see crabs on the bottom.
