Which hotel floor to choose in Turkey to avoid noise, heat and bugs

Based on 1 discussion with 3 participants · Last activity: 6 days ago

TL;DR

Floors 2-3 are the best balance: no heat from the roof, no bugs crawling in like on the ground floor, and reasonably quiet. Ask reception for a quieter room at check-in — a small tip sometimes helps.

In hotels with bungalow-style villas, ask for the units farthest from the center — they're still close to the sea, but near a eucalyptus grove for walks and much quieter. Ground floor isn't recommended: balconies sit almost at ground level, so lizards and other critters can wander in, plus no privacy since balconies face the walking paths directly. Floors 2-3 are the sweet spot.

Upper floors (e.g. 5th floor) heat up a lot from the roof — it's stuffy at night even with the balcony open, so air conditioning is a must. The 2nd floor is more comfortable in this regard.

Ground-floor rooms often have small terraces and are pretty quiet, aside from crows cawing at night. Balconies on higher floors are smaller than the ground-floor terrace. At check-in, slipping $10 into your passport and asking for a better, quieter room often works.
