Hidden gems and free attractions in Istanbul worth visiting

Tekfur Palace (Palace of the Porphyrogenitus) has an interesting museum with direct access to the old city walls. Worth discovering on a walk from Pierre Loti.

Miniaturk is an open-air miniature park featuring scaled models of Turkey's landmarks. Rahmi M. Koç Museum covers transport and industrial history with hands-on exhibits.

The restored Karakoy Palas building offers free entry to explore its interiors — about 20–30 minutes well spent.

The bank museum in Sultanahmet is free and traces the history of banking in Turkey. The guards are friendly and often share extra context.
