Is Istanbul hot at night in summer — do you need a jacket for evenings?

Weather can shift a couple of times in one day — from hot enough for a t-shirt to needing a light jacket, and sometimes even a sweater feels welcome.

On the open deck of a Bosphorus ferry in the morning you can actually feel cold in a dress. The sea breeze is strong enough that a light layer is worth packing for boat trips.

Istanbul evenings in summer are warm but manageable, especially with a breeze. A light shirt is handy but nights are not cold.

Daytime highs reach 30–33°C — avoid direct sun at midday. Air-conditioned cafes and shops help, and waterfront areas feel cooler thanks to the breeze.

If you're heat-sensitive, September–October is a much better time to visit Istanbul. Inland spots like Iznik can hit 36–38°C with no breeze even in the evening — unbearable for sightseeing.

Daytime is hot and tiring for walking; evenings cool down noticeably, especially near the water. Istanbul's coastal location makes summer more bearable than inland Turkish cities.
