How many days to spend in Hoi An and what to do there?

TL;DR

Two days is enough for Hoi An: old town, An Bang beach, and the Memories show on the island. Four days feels like too much.

What the community said

Four days in Hoi An turned out to be too many. The beach has clear, cool water with depth right from the shore. Sun loungers are free with a café purchase. The old town is best explored early morning by bicycle — almost no crowds. You can cycle to the beach through rice fields.

Two nights in Hoi An was plenty. Day one: island park and Memories show in the evening. Day two: An Bang beach in the morning, old town in the afternoon. Left on the morning of day three. An Bang beach near the entrance is shallow and murky with no waves — it may be better further along. Loungers are negotiable: asked 220,000 VND for three, settled at 150,000.

You can visit the old town even in the late afternoon — leaving at 4:30 PM is enough time. The Japanese Bridge, main streets, and a coffee with river views are the highlights. The river smell is a real issue that rarely gets mentioned. Boat rides feel more like an ordeal than a pleasure — vendors are very pushy.
