My Khe Beach Da Nang: north vs south — which area is better to stay?

One traveler's comparison: staying partly in Da Nang and partly near Hoi An, it rained lightly almost daily in Da Nang vs only once at night in Hoi An. Prices were slightly lower in Da Nang, main attractions and My Khe are concentrated there, plus more nightlife/bars. They'd choose Da Nang again next time, but stress that picking the right hotel matters a lot.

A contrasting experience: after 2 days in Da Nang and 6 days at a beach near Hoi An (not the old town), the traveler preferred Hoi An by far and called Da Nang the least impressive place visited during their whole Vietnam trip.

For the stretch around Grand Tourane, a newer option mentioned is Nesta Celia: praised for its breakfast and beach access. There is construction behind Grand Tourane, but the report says noise is barely noticeable. This part of My Khe was also described as having fewer locals on the beach in the mornings and evenings, with public dance/exercise groups farther away.

Da Nang is more of a city destination than a beach resort: strong restaurant and café scene, clubs and bars, but very little shopping. Fruit markets aren't on every corner — you need to seek them out. The sea is shallow and swimming is limited to designated enclosed areas. Popular with digital nomads. Less suited to classic package-style beach holidays than traditional resorts.

A contrasting view: the sea in Da Nang is better than Nha Trang — there's usually a gentle wave, fewer people on the beach in the morning, and sun loungers are easy to find. Fruit is sold from street stalls in the evenings, and currency exchange is available everywhere from massage parlours to cafés. Works well combined with a few days in Hoi An (40–45 min by taxi).

The south end of My Khe Beach — around M Hotel, Balcony hotel, and Maia beach club — tends to look more polished in photos, with more beach clubs and cafes within walking distance. A good pick if aesthetics and beachfront dining variety matter most.

The north of My Khe Beach — home to Radisson, Voco, Chicland hotels and Malibu beach club — is the most commonly recommended area by travel bloggers. Infrastructure is solid, though there are fewer beach clubs compared to the southern stretch.

If you've already been to Nha Trang and are looking for a more visually appealing beach scene, the south of My Khe may suit you better — personal aesthetic preference can outweigh generic blogger recommendations.
