Where to exchange currency in Da Nang — bank, exchange office, or ATM?

Even within the same shop chain, currency exchange is not available at every branch: one location offered a good rate of about 26.4 VND per USD, while a similar store roughly 1.5 km farther south did not provide exchange at all. If you go based on a recommendation, keep in mind that not every branch offers this service.

Many travelers wonder why locals avoid banks for currency exchange. In practice, banks in Da Nang often offer worse rates and may require additional documentation. Street and in-store exchange counters are faster and more flexible.

If the exchange rate at a local counter doesn't suit you, ATMs are a perfectly valid alternative in Da Nang — especially when the rate difference is small.

On the street parallel to the Da Nang seafront (second line from the beach), there are around three shops with bank-affiliated exchange counters just inside the entrance on the left. The rate was around 26.6 VND per USD, compared to 25–26 at street stalls. No commission, you can exchange as little as $50 from a $100 bill, and you can choose the denominations for your change.

The same in-store exchange counters also offer reverse exchange — Vietnamese dong back to USD. This is handy before departure and not always available at street stalls or hotels.

Exchanging currency at your hotel or at jewelry shops in Da Nang gives noticeably worse rates than the bank-affiliated counters in shops near the seafront — best avoided.
