Do travelers need to complete Vietnam’s Pre-Arrival Information (PAI) before arriving in Hanoi, and how do you fill it in for an e-Visa or visa-free entry?

According to the newest update, the PAI system applies to Hanoi airport as well. Travelers should complete the online form on Vietnam’s Pre-Arrival Portal before landing and keep the QR code ready for immigration.

If you are flying into Hanoi with an e-Visa, the PAI form is typically filled as Passport Type: P - Popular Passport, Visa Type: Electronic Visa (E-Visa), and Visa Number should be your e-Visa number. Your name, date of birth, and passport number should match your passport exactly.

For visa-free entry into Hanoi, travelers are advised to select Passport Type: P - Popular Passport and Visa Type: Unilateral exemption in the PAI form. The Visa Number field is left blank in that case.

The PAI form should be completed no earlier than 72 hours before arrival in Vietnam. After submitting, it is best to save the QR code and take a screenshot so you can show it at Hanoi airport even without internet access.

The form also asks for your flight number and the address of your first accommodation in Vietnam. The shared advice says any first-stay address can be entered, even if your plans may still change.

Information shared by tour operators says that from 22 June 2026 the PAI system was expanded to all international airports in Vietnam. Airports specifically mentioned as already using it include Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Phu Quoc.
