TL;DR
During high season (especially November-February) rental prices in Phu Quoc rise 1.5-3x; for example, a 2-bedroom in the Marina area costs 20-25 million VND per year, and a 16 million VND budget is nearly impossible to find for 2 bedrooms with good renovation during peak season.
With a 16 million VND budget it's hard to find a 2-bedroom with good renovation in high season unless it's an annual lease. For example, in the Sunset area that price gets you a 1-bedroom+1 on a yearly contract, while a 2-bedroom in Marina area costs 20-25 million VND per year. Two-bedroom units are rare in Duong Dong. From November to February prices run 1.5-2x higher than usual.
Be wary of listings offering housing for $300-500 that demand 100% prepayment upfront. Such offers often have fake reviews and prices 30-50% below market rate — a clear sign of a scam, especially common during peak season.
Not everything gets pricier in season, but housing definitely does, along with some services. During holidays, prices climb even higher.
During high season, rental prices on the island roughly double or triple compared to low season, while other expenses stay about the same.
