TL;DR
A minor overstay (1 day) may be overlooked at the airport with no fine or stamp. Larger violations can result in being sent to the immigration police with your passport confiscated.
A one-day overstay at the airport may be waived entirely — no fine, no stamp in the passport. Re-entry a couple of months later on a 3-month visa went through without issues.
Overstay issues are typically resolved at the airport. If you refuse to pay a fine or the violation is more serious, you may be sent to the city immigration police office where your passport can be confiscated.
At passport control on departure, one traveler was let through immediately while another was held for about 10 minutes for additional checks.
