TL;DR
The near beach has a sandy lagoon perfect for swimming with kids, with coral entry points on both sides for snorkeling; you can access the sea from several spots along the pier, including between the Palace and Beach hotels, or from the wild beach past the Albatros Beach hotel.
No need to go to the far beach — the near beach has a sandy lagoon that's great for swimming with young kids.
On either side of the lagoon there are coral entry points ('gates') with lots of fish — great for snorkeling and watching marine life.
At low tide, lots of starfish appear right near the shore — kids love it.
You can reach the sea from several access points along the pier, including the stretch between the Palace and Beach hotels.
There's also a wild beach right past the Albatros Beach hotel — locals swim there even with a 5-year-old, so there are plenty of entry options.
There's a nice seafront promenade — walk, scooter, or rent a buggy car for $15/hour right at the hotel to explore the coastline in both directions.
